Is this just a big beer party or is it a race? Good question. It's really both. This is going to be Gainesville's best racing event, with a super-fast course, chip-timing, prize money and other cool prizes. It's also going to be a [pretty killer beer festival, hosted by our friends at Tipple's Brews.
What about awards? Ok, so this is another thing that really sets this race apart. Top three male & female finishers are going to win PRIZE MONEY. Money, baby. Also, the top male and female masters finishers are going to win some cash. Plus, the top 100 male and 100 female finishers are going to win a limited-edition shirt, which is actually going to be a cool tee; not your normal race rags. Lastly, the top three in each standard age-group are going to win awards. So, there's all that.
How much prize money? Well, that's yet to be determined. We're working on getting this sponsored and if that comes through, we're aiming for $250/$100/$50 for the top three and $100 to each masters winner.
You said something about prizes? Oh, yeah! That's another thing! First of all, with your registration, you get free entry into the beer festival (21 and up, kiddos). Every runner gets a commemorative glass with logos and stuff. Also, Free Food - and not just bananas. There's going to be a costume contest, some drawings for cool stuff and one person will win their weight in beer. THEIR WEIGHT IN BEER!
How do I win my weight in beer? Well, first you MUST pre-register to be eligible. Do that here. Only pre-registered runners can win the beer...also, you've got to be there to win. Plus, you've got to be 21, but you already knew that, so...
What kind of beer will I win?We don't know yet. I mean, odds are it's probably basic American lager, but I sort of think, well maybe it's a craft-brewed ale, maybe it's a local IPA. Maybe it's something really cool I don't even know about.
What is this race for, again? To encourage good grammar. Just kidding (grammar is important though). This is the Florida Track Club's marquee event and biggest fundraiser.
Right, but is this a charity race? Well, yes. 10% of the proceeds go to the Florida Opportunity Scholarship Program. The Florida Track Club is a non-profit too. We support many local charities in a bunch of different ways, from Race Director Training to helping other non-profits put on fundraising races to supporting local elite runners.
What time does the course close? The sun sets at about 7:15, so you'll have to be off the course before then. We're going to close the course when it gets dark.
What else? This is important, actually. If you're running, you MUST get there well before 6. We have to start the race on time in order to finish before the sun sets. Traffic and parking could be problematic, so get there early.
